The dark underbelly of America contains numerous warts, boils, and cancerous tumors, inflicted by that loathsome grimoire of madness that the elected leaders of our nation have become.

What Being A Liberal Means To Me

Seems these days Conservatives have convinced themselves, and some of the American public, that being a Liberal is akin to being a card-carrying member of the Communist Party. While this may be a great smear tactic for an election year, to believe such a notion proves that the believer is uneducated in the fundamentals of the American political system. Our nation was founded on Liberalism. Embodied in the Declaration of Independence are its three tenets: "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

The very term, itself, is taken from the same root as the second of these precepts. To be a Liberal is to defend the freedom - the Liberty - of all people who make up our great nation. To be a Liberal is to trust individuals and families to run their own lives as they see fit. To be a Liberal is to create a nation where anyone can excel if they are willing to do the work.

In order to understand the true nature of Liberalism, and to dispel the misconceptions fomented by those whose agenda is counter to our freedom, I will detail the tenets of Liberal thought and dispel the misconceptions so often put forth by Conservative rhetoric.

Liberalism is "Life." It is freedom from physical dangers that can kill or disable us. The Liberal believes it is a nation's job to protect its citizens from physical harm, whether from external sources, such as hostile nations, or internal ones, like crime, disease, or hunger. Without the solid ground of physical wellbeing, our nation and its citizens cannot enjoy the benefits of being free. Liberals believe in a strong military, well suited to defend the nation. Liberals believe in good laws, hard-working police, and a just legal system to protect its citizens from crime. Liberals believe in affordable health care for everyone, to keep our people strong. And Liberals believe in the availability of food and shelter for its needy, not as a hand out but as a reasonable step in moving all Americans toward self-reliance and the freedom that comes with it.

Liberalism is "Liberty." It is the freedom to do as your conscience dictates without impeding another's rights. Fleeing oppression in mother Europe, our founders established a nation where personal belief and self-determination are protected, not persecuted, where hard work is rewarded, not demanded, and where each person is bestowed with the ability to better his or her life because of citizenship, not class. Liberals believe in freedom of speech to protect us from political oppression. Liberals believe in sound regulations to protect us from economic oppression. Liberals believe in just laws to protect us from social oppression. And Liberals believe in quality education to protect us from the oppression of ignorance.

Liberalism is "The Pursuit of Happiness." It is the freedom to create an environment where the individual can excel. What is freedom if it cannot be used to better our lives? A truly free society must be one where its members can rise above their limitations and expand their futures. We call it "The American Dream," and it's alive and well in the heart of the Liberal. Liberals believe in equal opportunities for all to rise above our means. Liberals believe in equal opportunities to rise above our education levels. Liberals believe in equal opportunities to rise above our social status. And Liberals believe each and every family should have an equal opportunity to make this world better for their children.

Based on these tenets, we can see that Liberalism is not the monster it's made out to be by the opposition. It is pro individual and pro family. It is pro community and pro country. Liberalism is, by its very definition, the heart and soul of what it means to be an American. It stands against tyranny of any kind, whether international or domestic. It works to remove abuse and fight crime. And it strives to eliminate the idea of a wasted life by not wasting resources and opportunities.

By this time someone might ask, "if that is a Liberal, then what is a Conservative?"

Liberals and Conservatives received their names for good reasons. Just as Liberals get their label by standing for Liberty, Conservatives get their label from the desire to "conserve" a style of living.

They, too, claim they are fighting to conserve our personal rights and our economic opportunities, but they do it with a different ideal than the Liberal. The term they use for the difference is "values." Values are norms or codes by which people live their lives. While most Americans share some common values, such as the right to own property and the right to protect our families, we also have many divergent values with which we raise our children. So if we try to impose values into the political framework of the nation, we are forced to ask, "whose values?" And in the search for such absolutes, we must also ask, "which generation's values?"

As the nation ages and new generations take over leadership, the values of its population change. Where once a woman was valued for how well she cooked, cleaned and entertained, today's women are gaining recognition that they offer as much, if not more, to the work force than men. Where once African Americans were forced to live as second-class citizens, now they have a legal status equal to that of whites, even if we still have a ways to go in actual practice.

Changing values brings confusing times for many - especially for those who believe that America was better with an older set of values. These people want to "conserve" a style of American living they believe once existed, what they call, "traditional family values." They want to conserve the system that they believe made America wealthy and strong. Unfortunately that also means they want to force all of us to live according to their values.

Conservatives don't really fight for our rights - they fight for what they think our rights should be - putting limits on our freedom of speech in order to "conserve" an older, more traditional norm of what should be said. Conservatives don't really fight for our family values - they fight for what they believe our family values should be - putting limits on our behavior, even behavior between consenting adults, in order to "conserve" an older, more traditional view of acceptable personal activity. Conservatives don't really fight for our income - they fight for little or no regulations - putting limits on our ability to be treated fairly by large companies, who if left without restriction, can form monopolies that choke out competition and drive down wages.

Conservatives are willing to curb our freedom of speech if it clashes with their interpretation of "traditional" values, values from an older time where woman were in domestic servitude to men, where child abuse, sexual abuse, wife abuse, and homosexuality were all kept locked in closets, where minorities were second-class citizens and discrimination was free from incrimination, and where the inability to plan a family's growth meant an explosion of mouths to feed - a population explosion that today threatens to bankrupt our nation's retirement funds. The Conservative position, therefore, is inherently contradictory. You cannot be for legislating away freedom in the name of "family values" and also claim you are protecting individual and family rights.

As new generations have placed their own values into the laws that govern our land, Conservatives have sought to fight back by limiting the size and power of the government. Conservatives are willing to give away the very power needed to protect our liberties in the work place. Their idea of a smaller, less-intrusive government means a return to the days where business decisions and profits were more important than clean air and clean water, where a business could abuse its employees without incrimination, and where minorities and women could be passed over for jobs or paid less then white males for the same jobs. Again the Conservative position is at odds with itself. You cannot claim you are fighting for families at the same time that you allow the family bread winner to be overworked and underpaid and allow neighborhoods to be overrun by non-regulated big business. The Conservative would effectively shift power away from the people, who can elect public officials to fight for their rights, and into the hands of private businesses, who need not answer to the public when making decisions that affect us all.

Because Liberals fight to protect every citizen from having other people's values imposed on them, Conservatives like to label Liberals as being evil. The following list shows what Conservatives like to say against Liberals, and then goes on to show why such assertions are false:

  1. Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-family.
    However . . .
  2. Conservatives want to define what your family should be
  3. Whereas . . .
  4. Liberals put you in charge of your family
  5. Liberals support your right to define what your family will be
  6. Liberals fight for your family's rights against economic and political oppression

  7. Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-business.
    However . . .
  8. Conservatives are pro-money, but that often translates into monopolies, which hurt small business and competition, which hurts us all
  9. Whereas . . .
  10. Liberals protect small businesses by regulating the larger ones and by breaking up monopolies
  11. Liberals protect workers in order to create a healthy workforce that will help businesses grow

  12. Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-religion.
    However . . .
  13. Conservatives are often for one dominant religion, and are, therefore, against others
  14. Whereas . . .
  15. Liberals support complete freedom of religion and from religion so that all citizen are free to choose the manner in which faith is a part of their lives
  16. Liberals strive to keep government completely out of a family's religious choices

  17. Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-freedom.
    However . . .
  18. Conservatives want to stop homosexuals, stop abortions, stop the women's movement, and stop freedom of expression through the use of censorship
  19. Whereas . . .
  20. Liberals leave it up to the parents to teach such values to their children
  21. Liberals believe each person or family should be free to choose how to behave as long as it does not interfere with another's rights

  22. Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-morality.
    However . . .
  23. Conservatives are for one specific kind of morality
  24. Whereas . . .
  25. Liberals are for the morality of free choice, where each person or family decides their own values
  26. Liberals want the government to protect our freedom to choose what is important to us rather than to impose the laws and codes of another's morality

  27. Conservatives say that Liberals are anti-military.
    However . . .
  28. Conservatives see the military as a means to impose their values and standards on others
  29. Whereas . . .
  30. Liberals see the military as a vital protection of our freedoms and our liberties, giving us a space in which to pursue happiness

Liberalism's Stance on Specific Issues
With the desire to promote Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness as the central motivation, the Liberal always defends these tenets when deciding how to stand on a particular issue. The following will show why Liberals often take the stance they do:

Abortion/Contraception - Liberty means the freedom to control your body, your reproductive system, and your future.

Affirmative Action - Liberty means having fair opportunities for those in society who are discriminated against.

Education - Liberty means the freedom to learn in order to build a better future for yourself, your family, your community, and your country.

Environment - Liberty means the fair use of our nation's natural resources for all citizens. Where possible, without unreasonable restriction to private enterprise, the government should strive to protect our natural environment so all can enjoy its bounty.

Gun Control - Liberty means the freedom to protect yourself, your family, and your property, with deadly force if necessary. People have a right to keep guns for such a purpose. People also have a right to use guns in sporting activities and in the event that citizens should be called on to form a citizen militia. We do not, however, have a right to own all the latest people-killing technology. The People, through the government, can restrict some of the more deadly weapons being sold today.

Health - Liberty means the freedom to overcome physical limitations in order to better yourself, your family, your community, and your country.

Regulations - Liberty means the freedom to live and work in an environment that best allows individuals and families to grow in the pursuit of happiness. Bad air, bad water, bad living and working conditions only stifle that liberty.

Sexuality - Liberty means the freedom to share mutual intimate affection with the person of your choice, regardless of gender.

Substance Abuse - Liberty means the freedom to decide what you put in your body. Unless the use of a substance is a danger to unwilling victims, its use should be kept legal. In situations where use of a substance may or may not effect bystanders, regulations - such as in the case with tobacco - should be enacted to protect the bystander without denying the individual's choice to use the substance. Smoking and non-smoking areas in public places are a prime example of this.

Taxation - Liberty is found within a system. That system does not happen by itself. It is created and supported by us, the People, and it is funded by our labors. The money we pay in taxes is what allows us to thrive in Liberty and work in fairness. Reasonable taxation is necessary because without it, many of us would find it difficult to get paid even a fraction of what we are paid now. And those who benefit more from the system should expect to pay more to help support it.

Women's/Minority Rights - Liberty means the freedom to be valued and judged on talent and work, not on the physical characteristics over which we have no control.

In closing let me state that freedom sometimes brings situations we don't like. Some people will choose to use their freedom to engage in activities that go against our personal values. It is a great temptation to use our democratic rights to try and enshrine our own personal values - whether they come from religious or humanistic origins - in the laws of the nation. The inherent problem with this is that when Liberty is restrained by any one group's values, even if that group represents the majority of the population at the time, it can easily be changed from one generation to the next, meaning that you could be forced to live under someone else's values as easily as you might force someone to live under yours.

The only true defense of our values is the defense of our liberties.
If you don't want to be forced to live under a foreign set of values, don't force others to live under yours. Instead, fight for the freedom to believe as you want while others believe as they want. Freedom of choice, as long as it does not infringe on another's rights, is the foundation upon which this nation was built. Liberalism is the ideology that strives to defend that freedom for everyone. And for that reason it pleases me to no end to state that I am proud to be Liberal.

Not Only COULD It Happen Here.........................

In 1928, the newly legalized National Socialist German Worker’s Party, aka the Nazi Party won just 2.6% of the vote, which netted them 12 seats (out of 491) in the German Parliament. In 1930, thanks to the Depression, massive unemployment and business failures, Hitler’s party got 18.3% of the vote and become the second major party in the Reichstag. By 1932, the ongoing economic crisis combined with corporate money, Hitler’s eloquent speeches, the boogeyman of Communism and a fear of domestic political violence (often inflicted by Nazi Party members themselves) propelled the National Socialist Party to first place. Illegal political party to dominant political party in four short years---

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_Party

Could not happen here, right? We do not have the necessary ingredients, like a depression with high unemployment and business failures driving people to despair and desperation…

Oh, wait, we do. Well, there is no corporate money behind the far right, and we all know that you can not win an election in this country without lots and lots of money, the kind that you can only get nowadays from billionaires…

Like the oil industry’s Koch brothers and Wall Street. Ok, but the far right has no one with the charisma of Adolph Hitler, no one that speaks to the ordinary, undereducated, underpaid, disgruntled American worker…

No, that’s not right. The right is cultivating a whole garden of little Hitlers, folks like Palin and Beck and Limbaugh. Good thing there is no boogeyman like the communist party to make people give up their civil liberties…

Oh, I forgot about Muslims, the new Red (Crescent) Scare. We have given up almost all the marbles for them. Never mind, one thing we absolutely do not have in this land of law and order is a problem with political violence, right wing fanatics intimidating the weak or threatening the lives of our elected leaders, so that ordinary citizens forget about compassion and turn to anyone who will promise law and order….

It is very old recipe, handed down from generation to generation of corporate fascists in this country, the very same ones who financed Hitler.

http://www.reformed-theology.org/html/book...

Wall Street was an early U.S. investor in German fascism. Wall Street has done more than anyone else to engineer this recession and keep it going by destroying our retirement accounts, stealing our homes and shutting down small business, which creates a disproportionate share of US jobs. Wall Street does not care what happens to this country ten years from now. Wall Street wants to turn a quick cash profit and retire to some island paradise. That’s why they are called banksters

Big Oil is also working against a deadline. Their product will run out soon. Before that happens, the world will switch fuels. That means the Saudis and Exxon and Henry Kissinger and the Koch brothers will be out of a job. Before that happens, they plan to squeeze every last dollar they can from us, even if it means a Road Warrior style future in which the world falls into chaos when the oil runs out. The Rockefellers’ Standard Oil was in on the action in 1932 Germany, and Big Oil is one of the big players in the right wing coup. We all know how Oil and Energy price gouged the country for eight years under Bush and how they created two foreign wars which have drained federal coffers and how their artifically high oil prices crippled a variety of domestic industries, like manufacturing, retail sales and travel, leading to a further loss of U.S. jobs. Like Wall Street, Big Oil is multinational. After they have drained the last drop of our life’s blood and gnawed on our bones, they will retire to Dubai along with Dick Cheney.

It is going to take more than a vote to save this country. It is going to take political contributions, volunteer efforts, letters to the press and Congress. Democracy takes a lot of work by a lot of people. That is why it is called democracy.

Something I Never Knew Abot 9/11 - DID YOU?

I never heard this before but I was listening to an NPR broadcast from the morning of September 11, 2001 and something popped out at me that I don't quite know what to make of it.

The hosts were discussing the towers going down and the Pentagon strike when they started discussing other breaking news of the day. The story of Iraq shooting down two unmanned American spy planes.

This is the first I've ever heard of this. Supposedly it happened on September 10th.

Whatever happened to this story? Or for that matter, what happened to the story of the Rumsfeld Pentagon "mis placing" $2.3 TRILLION

Seems that the events of 9/11 distracted us (deservedly so) from these news stories.

Has anyone heard of these events?

GOP Dirty Election Tricks in Texas

Sat Sep 11th 2010, 07:07 AM
Something stinks in Houston.

On Aug. 27, all of the Democratic stronghold’s 10,000 voting machine were destroyed in a fire which is described as probably arson. Houston is the (huge) home city of Mayor Bill White who is giving Gov. Rick “Goodhair” Perry a run for his money this year.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/11/us/polit...

Polls show that Perry and White are in a tight race. A Zogby poll from Sept 8 shows incumbent Perry leading White by only 3 points.

http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/arc...

That may be why Perry is up to his usual election year tricks. Recall that in 2006, the Teamsters, who supported Perry, declared a bus strike inside the city of Fort Worth, Texas a couple of days before the election. While other cities in Texas had huge turnouts on election day, Fort Worth’s voting that day was relatively slow----probably because the Democratic voters who relied on the city bus system to get to the polls had no transportation. The strike ended abruptly without any gains for employees immediately after the election.

If you pay attention to Texas news, you also know that Perry’s chief of staff Mike Toomey was caught trying to get a Green candidate on this fall’s ballot, presumably to either siphon off Democratic votes or (more likely) to allow election officials to shift some votes from White to the Green. The e-voting system in Texas is notorious for its inaccuracy.

http://trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com/arc...

In another story, the Rick Perry campaign was paying the salary of a staffer, Stuart Moss at the same time he was getting Green candidates in the Texas ballot.

http://www.oaoa.com/articles/texas-50656-a...

Back to the integrity of Texas elections. Just how bad is e-voting in Texas? Check this out:

http://texaspopulists.org/book/export/html...

In 2009, state Democrats managed to derail plans for a Poll Tax in their state. By “poll tax” I refer, of course, to a strict voter ID law, of the kind that was ruled illegal in Georgia. Republicans vow to try again next year.

http://www.star-telegram.com/2010/06/14/22...

Despite not having a poll tax, it looks like Perry will have an easy election, now that voters in White’s own city of Houston will have to scramble for election machines. Shades of Ohio, 2004.

13 Reasons You MUST Vote!

1.The Right Wing Hates Firemen : Michael Savage

SAVAGE: Now is it any wonder why people have no respect anymore for this? I mean, really? What is the average life of a fireman today? Nine AM: Work out on the weights in the firehouse. Eleven AM: Perfect your low-fat cooking skill. One PM: Respond to a false alarm. Three PM: Take a nap. Five o'clock: It's pau hana beer time.
And then, there are far too many firehouses. There are far too many firehouses throughout America. They need to be amalgamated into single units that respond to an entirely large area. This is all part of the union-legislature complex.

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201007070025

2. The Right Wing Hates Women : Mark Levin

Levin to female caller: "I don't know why your husband doesn't put a gun to his temple. Get the hell out of here

Audio of Mark Levin abusing a woman.

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200905220010

Addressing his September 4 comments, in which he called the National Organization for Women, the "National Organization of Ugly Women," Mark Levin said: "I just wanted to underscore that maybe I shouldn't have called them the National Organization of Ugly Women. For now on, it's the National Organization of Really Ugly Women

http://mediamatters.org/research/200809090...

3. The Right Wing Hates Black folks : Rush Limbaugh

Obama wouldn’t have been voted president if he weren’t black. Somebody asked me over the weekend why does somebody earn a lot of money have a lot of money, because she’s black. It was Oprah. No, it can’t be. Yes, it is. There’s a lot of guilt out there, show we’re not racists, we’ll make this person wealthy and big and famous and so forth…. If Obama weren’t black he’d be a tour guide in Honolulu or he’d be teaching Saul Alinsky constitutional law or lecturing on it in Chicago.

4. The Right Wing Hates Jewish people : Sean Hannity

Gibbs: Let me ask you a question. Are you anti-Semitic?
Hannity: Not at all.
Gibbs: On your show on Sunday, the show that's named after you, right? The center piece of that show was a guy named Andy Martin.
Hannity: I know you're reading your talking points.
When I interviewed Al Sharpton, when I interviewed all these controversial figures, you see on FOX we actually interview people of all points of view whether we agree or disagree.
Gibbs: Andy Martin called a judge a crooked, slimy Jew, who has a history of lying and thieving common to....Martin when on to write that he understood better why the Holocaust took place given that Jew survivors are acting like a wolf pack...
Hannity:I find those comments despicable...
Gibbs: You put him on your show. It's the Hannity Show

5. The Right Wing Hates Victims of Katrina and 9/11 : Glenn Beck

But the second thought I had when I saw these people and they had to shut down the Astrodome and lock it down, I thought: I didn't think I could hate victims faster than the 9-11 victims. These guys -- you know it's really sad. We're not hearing anything about Mississippi. We're not hearing anything about Alabama. We're hearing about the victims in New Orleans. This is a 90,000-square-mile disaster site, New Orleans is 181 square miles. A hundred and -- 0.2 percent of the disaster area is New Orleans! And that's all we're hearing about, are the people in New Orleans. Those are the only ones we're seeing on television are the scumbags -- and again, it's not all the people in New Orleans. Most of the people in New Orleans got out! It's just a small percentage of those who were left in New Orleans, or who decided to stay in New Orleans, and they're getting all the attention. It's exactly like the 9-11 victims' families. There's about 10 of them that are spoiling it for everybody.

6. The Right Wing Hates Matthew Shephard : Laura Schlessinger

"You know what was largely responsible for that guy’s death? Those two guys who killed him did not go out looking for a homosexual to kill that night. They were shooting pool. He went to the bar. He left with two guys he thought he was gonna have sex with. He got murdered. How many women has that happened to? How many women have left bars thinking they were gonna get some action with some guy who raped and murdered and tortured and murdered them? Far more women than homosexual men have ended up dead that way, I would guess. Is that a hate crime against women? I think so but they specifically picked the woman who was willing to leave for sex. If Matthew hadn’t been willing to leave for sex, he might still be alive. That certainly doesn’t make him responsible for his own death but when you put yourself into a situation of going off to have anonymous sex with people you meet at a bar, what kind of person is gonna leave with you? Usually scum.... This was a terrible tragedy but it’s also one that might have been avoided if he had simply gone home with his friends instead of thinking he was gonna get a little."

7. The Right Wing Hates The US Constitution (and loves the Interment of Japanese-Americans in WWII): Michelle Malkin

"The politically correct myth of American 'concentration camps' has become enshrined as incontrovertible wisdom in the gullible press, postmodern academia, the cash-hungry grievance industry, and liberal Hollywood. This hijacking of history is endangering us today"(p. xx).
"Make no mistake: I am not advocating rounding up all Arabs or Muslims and tossing them into camps, but when we are under attack, 'racial profiling' -- or more precisely, threat profiling -- is justified. It is unfortunate that well-intentioned Arabs and Muslims might be burdened because of terrorists who share their race, nationality or religion. But any inconvenience, no matter how bothersome or offensive, is preferable to being incinerated at your office desk by a flaming hijacked plane" (p. xxx).
"Civil rights absolutists and ethnic lobbyists waged an intimidating campaign for reparations and redress on behalf of ethnic Japanese evacuees. In 1988, relying on the biased conclusion of a stacked federal panel that the World War II evacuation and relocation were based on 'race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership,' President Reagan issued a formal apology… The most damaging legacy of this apologia and compensation package has been its impact on national security efforts. The ethnic grievance industry and civil liberties Chicken Littles wield the reparations law like a bludgeon over the War on Terror debate"

http://www.densho.org/about/revisionism.as...

Malkin isn’t alone. A whole lot of Right Wingers hate the US Constitution:

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/09/rightwi... /

A conservative talk radio station in San Diego has a pressing question to ask its listeners: Should "practicing Muslims" be "registered" on a national database during a time of war?
KFMB 760 AM, the San Diego home of such right-wing on-air personalities as Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage, reportedly asked the question on its Web site Wednesday, according to Ben Dimiero at MediaMatters.
"During a time of war, should we register as many practicing Muslims as we can find in a national database?" the poll asked.

8. The Right Wing Hates Teachers : Sarah Palin

Watch Sarah Palin grimace and roll her eyes when she learns that she is talking to a teacher.

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/08/09/palin-... /

9. The Ring Wing Hates Fairness : Charles Krauthammer

Obama is a leveler. He has come to narrow the divide between rich and poor. For him the ultimate social value is fairness. Imposing it upon the American social order is his mission.
<...>
If Obama has his way, the change that is coming is a new America: “fair,” leveled and social democratic.

http://wonkette.com/407525/charles-krautha...

10. The Right Wing Hates Children : The GOP
Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate, indicated that he supported holding hearings on whether the 14th Amendment citizenship right should be abolished.
The campaign to abolish the citizenship clause has been accompanied by an accelerating xenophobic campaign against immigrants and their children. “People come here to have babies,” Lindsey Graham declared on National Public Radio. “They come here to drop a child—it’s called drop and leave. To have a child in America, they cross the border, they go to an emergency room, have a child and that child is automatically an American citizen.”
John Cornyn appeared on CBS to say, “The question is, if both parents are here illegally, should there be a reward for their illegal behavior?” Here the birth of a child is treated as a criminal act, with both the parents and the child to be punished for the offense

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2010/aug2010/...

11. The Right Wing Hates Our Troops : John McCain
“Obama Voted for and McCain Voted Against $360 Million for Armored Vehicles for Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2005, Obama voted for and McCain voted against providing $360.8 million for armored tactical wheeled vehicles for units deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan and $5 million to establish ballistics engineering research centers at two major research institutions. The measure against which McCain voted also required such centers to advance knowledge and application of ballistics materials and procedures to improve the safety of land-based military vehicles
snip
McCain voted against providing an additional $322 million for troop equipment and body armor
Snip
McCain also has numerous votes against increased funding for veterans’ health care.

12. The Right Wing Hates the Disabled : Too numerous to count.

Rush makes fun of Michael J. Fox

Tea Baggers mock anyone who is sick:

13. The Right Wing Hates Friendship : George Will

Asked for a "final thought" on the president's speech last night, conservative columnist George Will chose to focus on the fact that Obama was able to wrap his arms around another man, in friendship. "I don't know when men started to hug each other, but hug they do, and look at that," he said.

http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/128989/... /

If the scariest thing in the world to the Right Wing is two men hugging, I shudder to think what the Right Wing Coup has planned for the America and the World.

What Do You Think of the Following

"The U.S. Declaration of Independence, which founded our nation and at the same time rationalized its existence, is one of the most radical documents in the history of the world. I mean that in a good way, as I believe that it is a great concise blueprint for an ideal nation. Though in some ways our nation has progressed since 1776 towards fulfilling the promises of its founding document, in other ways it has regressed. At this point in history the promise is very far from fulfilled. More Americans need to understand that, because problems can’t be solved until their existence is recognized and understood."

Why???

One million people in Iraq dead.

Their infrastructure is in tatters.

Millions displaced.

Thousands upon thousands orphaned and homeless.

Half the population now lives in slums.

The American economy has been devastated by the criminal activity of the bush administration.

The American people are hurting BAD as a result.

Millions displaced

The bush administration committed criminal acts, and there is ZERO justification for this administration to allow this treasonous act to go unpunished.

Our international peace treaties are rendered meaningless. The crimes in America are going unpunished.

Yes, the bush administration is a bunch of criminal traitors who committed the ultimate treasonous act of committing our troops into war and murder and death based on LIES.

But, the Obama administration has allowed this treason to be sanctioned.

And, that is simply unacceptable.

Plain and simple.

I'm Putting The Band Back Together

Here we go again!

In this election year, being Fed Up American means more to me than ever.

The bush administration has left America weakened and has destroyed two middle eastern sovereign nations. Countless money has been spent and copious amounts of blood has been spilled as a result and the republicans want to start up their criminal activity and further destroy America.

I will NOT let that happen.

That being said, Fed Up American will be resurrecting his blog talk radio shows helping expose the republican/conservative/teahadist agenda for what it truly is.

Join me on Friday September 3rd at 7:00 PM CST for 60 minutes of LIVE polit-speak call in show - Fed Up American style.

If you miss the LIVE broadcast be sure to check out the archives!

THANK YOU and I'll be looking for you Friday.

It IS Going To Happen

While you’re sitting there listening to Limbaugh, or watching Beck – while you’re carrying a mis-spelled placard around with words like No amnety! or Make English our Offical Language, or some other slogan that slaughters the language you allegedly hold so dear – while you go teabaggin’ with your equally ill-informed neighbors, leaving no doubt in anyone’s mind about how ignorant you are – while you’re railing against the immigrants who are ruining the community you live in – while you’re tossing around words and phrases you think denote your superiority over non-White, non-Christians that actually demonstrate your inferior intellect, it’s going to happen.

Your son is going to meet some slope-eyed gook in his high school science class, and think she’s the most beautiful, articulate young woman he’s ever met. He’s going to dream about taking her to the prom – and eventually, he will. And your ravings about it will fall on decidedly deaf ears. He’ll start wondering why you’re such a bloviating idiot, incapable of seeing in her everything that he sees, plain as day.

Your daughter is going to go away to college. She’s going to room with a dorm-mate she finds fascinating and witty. When she finds out her roommate is a lesbian, it’s not going to change her affection or admiration for her one iota. She’s going to question exactly what it is about this lovely friend, and people like her, that you find so offensive. She’s going to start finding you and your ideas to be more offensive than anything her roommate has ever said or done.

Your youngest brother is going to follow in the footsteps of his father, his grandfather, and his uncles, and join the military. He’s going to be stationed somewhere in the Middle East. He’s going to become best friends with an Iraqi translator who shares his love of the same books, the same music, the same art. He’s going to wonder why you think his new friend is so vastly “different” because they don’t practice the same religion – when, in fact, they are so similar in so many respects. He’s going to realize that you’re a narrow-minded jerk – and a lot less of a “good Christian” than you’ve always professed yourself to be.

Your favorite cousin is going to “come out” at a family reunion. He’s going to introduce his partner to everyone in attendance, and proudly so. Some of your family members will embrace the idea – some won’t. But those who do will start seeing you as a mindless homophobe, and will be grateful that their favorite cousin didn’t wind up with someone as blatantly narrow-minded as you take pride in being.

Your best bud at work is going to invite you to a meeting about joining a union. He’s going to explain to you why unions exist to protect workers’ rights, while you go on and on about socialism and communism (and all the other terms you don’t understand, but spew anyway by rote), and how the country is going down the toilet because workers are demanding safe working conditions and an honest wage. He’s going to realize you’re too deafened by talking points from the very people who don’t care whether you earn enough to look after your family to hear the facts that are in your own best interest.

And if you are religious, your wife is going to stop attending the church you and she have been members of for as long as anyone can remember, (at first with some sense of reluctance, and later with great enthusiasm), because she’s come to realize that the preaching of politics from the pulpit is as un-American as it is un-Christian.

She’ll remember that the story of Jesus taught his followers to look after the poor, the homeless, the sick, and the helpless in His name – and she’ll recognize that these simple truths have been supplanted by political persuasion that preach the exact opposite behavior as being so called “Christian family values” to be adhered to.

She’ll start wondering when the man she has shared a bed with for all of her adult life became too far removed from your Bible’s  teachings to recognize that they are being turned into something hypocritical, something so contrary to their purpose. She’ll recognize that the man she looked up to for years has turned out to be someone to be looked down upon – an easily-manipulated sheep, as opposed to the manly shepherd she once thought she’d married.

Oh it IS going to happen. And this is how.

The world, and the nation we live in, changes every day – sometimes by inches, often in movements too small to be detected in the great scheme of things.

But it is changing – one citizen at a time, one moment-of-truth at a time, one life-long friendship at a time, one realization at a time, one mixed-race baby at a time, one inter-faith marriage at a time, one welcome to the community regardless-of-where-you-came-from at a time, one I-love-you-no-matter-what-comes-our-way at a time, one I-will-stand-with-you-and-uphold-your-rights at a time, one Nation Indivisible by those who would divide us for their own purposes, whatever their purposes might be.

To say that it’s going to happen is to predict the inevitable. It is happening as we speak.

And it is as righteous and pre-destined as it is wondrous to behold.

This country has, from its inception, been shaped by those who refused to be identified with one religion, one ethnic background, one political persuasion, one opinion, one language, one culture, one perception, one way of thinking, being, or believing to the exclusion of all else.

The tapestry we have become is enhanced by its many colors, and strengthened by its many threads.

That’s the way it always has been and that’s the way it will always be.

Like it or not.

It IS going to happen.

Are We Scared Stupid Yet?

Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 02:37 PM by walldude
To whom it may concern,

You people need to get your shit together. Really. Because it's not working. Not at all. You are going to have to try much harder if you want to scare me. A Mosque in an old coat factory? Really? This is the best you can do? I'm supposed to be scared of some people worshipping some mythological figure in an old coat factory? Yeah I'm quaking in my little booties.

Social Security? This is all you got? Some rich jackass on TV telling me Social Security is a cow with 310 million tits? Are you even allowed to say tits in print or on TV? Really, you are going to have to do better than that old man. Go back to your gold plated bathroom fixtures and leave reality to real people. Ass.

Teachers? Really? I'm supposed to be afraid of teachers? Underfunded, underpaid, overworked, given a car with no wheels and told to win the Daytona 500, and I'm supposed to believe that the entire education system is fucked up because of.. teachers.. Yeah those bastards, taught my kids to read, to do math, they taught my kids how to learn and I'm supposed to be afraid of what those rotten bastards are doing to the school system. :eyes:

Obama? I'm supposed to be afraid of the scary Muslim Socialist Nazi Kenyan? After 8 years of George W Bush, terrorist attacks, 2 wars, economic meltdown, constitutional violations, signing statements, secret policy meetings, Guantanamo, Torture, Abu Grahib, deregulation and Wall Street Bailouts and I'm supposed to be afraid of Obama? I may not be happy with everything he's done and I may bitch about his appointments or policy decisions but please don't ever confuse my opposition with your paranoid fantasies.

I know there is an election coming up, and the time to try to scare the American people into voting against their own best interests is now but shit, is this the best you can do? It's a really sad state of affairs when the GOP and it's propaganda arms can't even get me scared of the Crazy, Nazi, Kenyan, Socialist, Muslim.

Next time you want to win an election, try not voting against health care for 9/11 first responders so you can keep foreign corporation tax loopholes in place. It looks really bad.

Fucking idiots.

Oh and a note to the Democrats:
Here's your chance to prove me wrong. The Republicans are desperate and they have handed you the election all wrapped up in a bow. All you have to do is get off the stupid faux Mosque controversy and get the message back to the GOP likes foreign corporations more than 9/11 first responders. It's the only message you need to win. Try not to fuck it up huh...

repubicans Are American Terrorists

If you are a hyper-partisan, barking mad, taint-licking, pitchfork wielding, redneck racist bible thumping, painfully ignorant, pathologically dishonest, chronically unethical, intellectually unconscious, jaw-droppingly stupid crybaby and you have the desperate
aura of an endangered species you just might be a republican.

I’ll make this real simple.

When you want your car to go forward, what do you do? You put it into D!

D, by the way, also stands for Democrat.

When you want it going backwards, what do you do? You put it into R!

R as in republican.

As a nation, we don't want to go into reverse; we don't want to go back into the ditch. We want to move forward. We want to progress. We want to evolve. But it seems that there is a certain pocket of people, who for one reason or another, want to see us go backwards.

To have America go in reverse.

Of course I’m referring to the modern day republican. They go by many names these days: conservative, tea bagger, right-wing whatever – you can spot them by their Manson-like way of thinking – but they are essentially all the same.

Republicans are a group of wealthy capitalists, religious fundamentalists who think their religious beliefs are the sole correct ones and that there is a loosening of morals in the US. They are racists, and favor violence as the solution to a problem. They share these same values with their terrorist counter-parts Al Qaeda.

And while it is certainly most entertaining, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that the republicans are trying to terrorize the American people, and that this makes them, quite literally, terrorists.

Never have so many filibusters been threatened as in the first two years of the Obama Presidency.

While the filibuster is a tactic used on both sides of the aisle, these numbers are unprecedented. Republican obstructionism is preventing the vast majority of legislation from moving forward and is thwarting the will of the American people. Republicans are hurting the country and the economy by refusing to let most legislation move forward without an intense and unnecessary political battle that winds up having the taxpayer pick up the tab.

Of course this is nothing new for the republicans. But at least there has always been some element of plausible deniability involved. They could point to some sort of policy argument, no matter how lame. Now, that's gone.  With the absurdity of the premise totally exposed, this is nothing left but the naked attempt to terrorize America.

That's what the GOP has finally become: America's largest terrorist organization.

Eat your heart out, KKK.

U.S. Occupation of Iraq More Than Doubles Poverty, Sickness -- Leaves Country a Total Disaster
The American public has no idea just how terrible we've made conditions in Iraq.
August 22, 2010 |

Iraq has between 25 and 50 percent unemployment, a dysfunctional parliament, rampant disease, an epidemic of mental illness, and sprawling slums. The killing of innocent people has become part of daily life. What a havoc the United States has wreaked in Iraq.

UN-HABITAT, an agency of the United Nations, recently published a 218-page report http://www.unhabitat.org/pmss/listItemDeta... entitled State of the World’s Cities, 2010-2011. The report is full of statistics on the status of cities around the world and their demographics. It defines slum dwellers as those living in urban centers without one of the following: durable structures to protect them from climate, sufficient living area, sufficient access to water, access to sanitation facilities, and freedom from eviction.

Almost intentionally hidden in these statistics is one shocking fact about urban Iraqi populations. For the past few decades, prior to the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, the percentage of the urban population living in slums in Iraq hovered just below 20 percent. Today, that percentage has risen to 53 percent: 11 million of the 19 million total urban dwellers. In the past decade, most countries have made progress toward reducing slum dwellers. But Iraq has gone rapidly and dangerously in the opposite direction.

According to the U.S. Census of 2000, 80 percent of the 285 million people living in the United States are urban dwellers. Those living in slums are well below 5 percent. If we translate the Iraqi statistic into the U.S. context, 121 million people in the United States would be living in slums.

Patrick Fitzgerald Should Be Jailed

After a months long investigation Governor Rod Blagojevich was unceremoniously removed from his ELECTED office and arrested on trumped up charges with NO REAL EVIDENCE.

The voice of te Illinois voter was ignored.

Yet Patrick Fitzgerald, the idiot douche nozzle that lead the charge against the Governor, remains free to go about his business (whatever the fuck THAT is) Fitz has a history of starting high profile cases against political leaders but FAILS to produce ANY of his promised results.

Why is his idiot allowed to continue his witch hunts on te tax payer dime?

Why has he not been jailed yet for filing false police reports?

Perhaps Blago will go on the offense now and SUE THE SHIT out of Fitzgerald.

Let's Assume That You're A Complete Fucking Idiot

Posted by MrScorpio in General Discussion
Sat Aug 14th 2010, 10:31 AM

You've been one for your entire adult life.

Now despite your apparent lack of mental agility, critical reasoning skills, capacity to apply nuanced concepts to everyday situations, self-awareness, tolerance for diversity, understanding of complex political and economic mechanisms and generalized open-mindedness, your god-damned idiocy really never seemed that much of a problem for you.

You've always worked hard, raised a family, put a roof over their heads, drank beers with your buddies, hunted in season, watched the game on Saturday, went to church on Sunday, paid your taxes, saved up for your retirement and lived a generally productive, albeit non-descript, life. None of that complex political and economic mumbo-jumbo, that those Sunday morning talking heads and C-Span jerks always seemed to jibber-jabber about, really seemed to matter in the great scheme of things.

That was, of course, until things "CHANGED".

Your dollar doesn't seem to buy what it used to, that house that you worked so hard to own has become a monkey on your back, your job is fixin' to be outsourced, your fruity nephew in fruity California is about to get married to his fruity boyfriend, there are funny looking brown people who speak in funny sounding languages queuing up outside the Home Depot for work all the time and there's a Black Guy, who may or may not be some radical, hippie, Muslim, Commie from Africa taking up residence in the White House.

That's right, your world has turned Upside Down.

What do you do?

Well, because you're a god-damned idiot, you really never paid attention to civics, social studies and history in school. Those talking heads and jerks are always acting like that they're better than you are, because they use a lot of ten dollar words to talk over your pointy head. None of your beer drinking cohorts, hunting buddies, fellow church-goers or neighbors seem to know what the hell is going on and besides, every one of them are just as confused, angry and desperate as you are. Your politicians are utterly remote and uncaring. And you know full well that you don't have enough power or money to matter.

You're pissed off and you have no idea how or where to direct your piss offedness.

That is until, The TEBBAGGERS came to town.

These are people who are just like you, they've hit all the marks that you've hit all your life. They're all stupid, angry and confused (You really identify with that), yet, they've come to town with an important message from on high in the Stratosphere from the likes of people like Fox News, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh.

That message is that you have every right be pissed off. No one is looking out for you, especially that radical, hippie, Muslim, Commie Black Guy in the White House. He's too busy trying to take your guns away, invalidate your marriage license, raise your taxes through the roof, kill off your mom, give your job away to those funny sounding brown people, turn your church into a Muslim terrorist cubby hole and turn America into a Commie experiment full of white people in concentration camps (at least, that's what Fox, Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh said). You have NO reason NOT to trust them. Yes, these people who look just like you and are sounding just like you, have your best interest at heart... Because, you believe them when they tell you that they're all JUST LIKE YOU (Don't mind that fact that they're all millionaires and have never worked a hard day's labor ever once in all of their collectively pathetic lives).

They tell you that, to keep America free, we need to ensure that Social Security and Medicare are kept out of the hands of of a government that's currently being run by that radical, hippie, Muslim, Commie Black Guy from Africa, no matter what. That we must drill our way out of the dwindling of finite resources and that we need to keep the tax breaks for the relative few who can buy multi-million dollar yachts, jetliners and 100 room mansions with their pocket change. They tell you that ONLY your collective screaming and hissyfitting will save the day. That you DO matter, just as long as you're loud and parrot their talking points ad nauseum. They tell you that this is how the Forefathers made this country free and wrote the Constitution. They tell you you that your conservative beliefs are the solution to the problem (that they, in fact, created).

And yes, you believe ALL of this, because you're a god-damned idiot.

Now, I know that this goes against everything that you know, because you really don't know anything about what you're screaming about, but have noticed that everything that Fox, Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh said is wrong (That when it came down to brass tacks, your idiocy did not stop the people who aren't idiots from going forward and pulling your sorry, stupid asses along for the ride (at least part way)?

Well, of course not.

Let's not forget that you are, in fact, a god-damned idiot. And it's on the strength of that idiocy that your core beliefs never have to waver in the face of counter cyclical facts and absolute truth. Your idiotic "reality" insulates you from all of that. It keeps you warm at night and keeps the fires of anger, fear and confusion well stoked in your empty head like burning hot embers.

I'm sorry to say this, my idiotic friend, but there is no help for you. Because, in spite of all your vigorous teabagging, very little has changed. You've been so very angry all for naught. Yes, all you've done is dig a bigger hole for yourself. If you don't believe me, just take a look at your credit card bills since you've started on this teabagging adventure. Missing work and taking trips to a very expensive Nation's Capitol adds up, doesn't it? And I bet that your son has been talking to his fruity cousin in fruity California while you've been on the road. Apparently, teabagging is causing more problems than it solves. Perhaps, you should try something new?

Now, I have an honest suggestion and perhaps one that may make some sense for you to heed... Just follow Sarah Palin's sterling example: Quit.

Quit teabagging, because it hasn't stopped a damn thing. Quit listening to Fox, Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh, because they all have not told you one true thing. They make all of it up as they go along So turn it all off, you're better off using a Magic Eight Ball for answers. Quit buying so much ammo. You're making it scarce and running up the price so that it'll be harder to buy for hunting season. Quit standing out in the hot sun on the Washington Mall holding hand painted signs that are barely legible, because you scrawled them in a fit of anger. I bet that you never even wore enough sun screen, now did you? C'mon, the last thing that you need is skin cancer, you've got a house to maintain for you and your family. Quit, being so angry all the time. It runs up your blood pressure and makes you grit your teeth. The last thing that you need is a heart attack. Don't even bother voting, because Sarah won't be on any ballot this November, and none of the other candidates can hold a candle to her awesomeness. Especially, those Republican guys. Quit worrying about that radical, hippie, Muslim, Commie Black Guy in the White House. He's not going to be there forever. Heck, if you turn off your radio and TV, you can barely even notice that he's there at all. That's because, after he's gone, you'll still have your guns and mom will have never been a hundred miles from any direction close to a "Death Panel" and the Government will have not put its grubby hands on Social Security, Medicare or the Internet. They have other, bigger, oily fish to fry.

Quit worrying so much. You don't see Sarah worrying, now do you?

Do you know why? Well, it's because she quit, of course. And guess what, if she can do it, so can you.

Go back home. Post your thoughts on Facebook. Drink a beer. Get a life.

Quit being such a god-damned idiot.

Take it from a friend who cares; you'll feel much better about everything if you do.

  • I want DADT gone.
  • I support a strong public school system.

There might be more, but those are the biggies.

As far as I can tell, these beliefs or hopes or activism, are what the admin finds so offensive coming from the Professional Left. If you don't believe that is so, what has the newly ordained Professional Left done to deserve such scourge from Gibbs and the admin.?

I am truly curious to know.

Get Out The Vote!

Obama for America
Dave --

Eighteen years ago, shortly after graduating from law school, I helped lead a voter registration campaign in Chicago that generated record turnout on Election Day.

That experience taught me one of the most important lessons I ever learned as a community organizer: When people promise that they'll do something -- like voting -- they are far more likely to do it.

That's why one key part of our Vote 2010 plan this year is to get folks like you from across the country to commit to vote, to make sure we get as many people as we can to cast their ballots this fall.

But getting the commitments we need starts with your own promise to make it to the polls and cast your ballot.

Will you please commit to vote in the 2010 elections?

Over the next 82 days, volunteers across the country will spend countless hours calling voters and knocking on their doors, asking them the same question.

And you can bet that I am counting on you to join them in talking to voters in your community.

This election offers a stark choice. We Democrats are hard at work trying to move America forward, repairing a decade of damage and growing an economy based on the Main Street values of hard work and responsibility.

We've fought for and won historic reforms to our health care system, a victory 100 years in the making, and to Wall Street, the most sweeping overhaul of the financial system since the Great Depression.

But after years of policies that landed us in the worst recession since the 1930's, the Republicans who got us there have not come up with anything different from the policies of George W. Bush.

We simply cannot afford to go backwards or let them repeal our reforms. And making sure we can continue moving forward starts with your own promise to cast your ballot in these elections.

Please commit to vote this fall:

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

republicunts Plan To DESTROY America!

WOW ! Dick Morris Email Reveals Republican Secret Game Plan to Force States Into BANKRUPTCY- Breaking ALL Union Agreements !

By Greg Jones
Blacks4Barack
National Director

I frequently listen to the opposition, from Fox News to Rush, because I have always felt it very important to stay abreast of just how they're thinking. They don't know it, but I'm also on the email list to receive some of the right-wing emails/messages they send to their fellow Repubs. I received one today from Dick Morris, the guy who talks out of the side of his mouth as a regular pundit on Fox News. Morris, a former Democrat, was part of the Clinton administration and has re-devoted his life to Dem/Obama bashing.

Today I received Morris' latest email stating what he feels the Republican strategy should be if they were to regain control...his 'answer' to solving the economic problems created by the Bush Regime. To my amazement (I don't know why I'm so surprised), based on Morris, the Republican strategy is to literally block much needed financial aid to struggling states with the ultimate goal being to force all of the states INTO BANKRUPTCY ! They also plan to break ALL union agreements including wages, rules, pensions and more ! Not only does this explain why Repubs are voting against everything that could be helpful to The Recovery, but this email is absolutely, incredibly revealing and spells out exactly what we can expect should we allow the Repubs to regain power. Below are excerpts from the Morris email/newsletter. Truly dangerous stuff. Here's what Morris wrote:

*As Congress reconvenes next week to pass a $26 billion bailout of state and local governments entombed in their own deficits, we witness a foretaste of the crisis that will be the central event of the first half of next year: the collapse of state governments.

*As long as the Democrats control Congress, they will continue to rubber-stamp Obama's requests for bailouts of profligate states. But when the Republicans take control, they will be less than forthcoming. Republicans will ask the central question: Why should taxpayers from states that have cut their budgets and observed spending restraint, pay for the extravagances of the other states? Why should forty-seven states have to pay for California, New York, and Michigan?

*The Republican solution to state financial distress should be simple: The Party should insist on a change in the federal bankruptcy law providing for a procedure for state bankruptcy (none now exists). This process must call for abrogation (means=to end) of all state and local public employee union contracts as is usually done in private sector bankruptcies. By freeing states and local governments (including school boards) of their union obligations on wages, work rules, staffing, and pensions, they have a chance to survive and, indeed, to prosper. But merely subsidizing these massive expenditures just prolongs the misery of the states in question.

*The collapse of overspending state governments must trigger the diminution of the power unions hold over their budgets and their politics. Their coming bankruptcies offer an opportunity for reform and the Republican Congress - backed by newly elected Republican state governments - give us precisely the opportunity we need to effectuate it. (*=Excerpts from emailed Dick Morris.Com newsletter entitled "The Coming Catastrophe: State Governments")

FACT: If the Repubs regain power...
we're in BIG trouble as a nation.
The Time is NOW...TO FIGHT !

Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty.

Liberals ended segregation.

Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.

Liberals created Medicare.

Liberals passed the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.

What did the ignorant conservatives do?

They opposed them on every one of those things.

Every damn one!

So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, 'Liberal,' as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won't work because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.
