Support The Troops?

Now that the RNC is, thankfully, over, I would like to make an observation while shaking my index finger in a scolding manner for those of you that are even thinking of voting Republican in the forthcoming election.

Especially those of you that are the “support the troops” variety.

The Republican sure did make every effort possible to give the faux appearance of being pro troop or pro veteran. I guess I should also shake my finger at the main stream media in attendance because they seemed to be in some intoxicated euphoria, hanging on every Republican lie, not challenging a single thing. Not saying, as I no doubt would, WTF are you guys talking about.

From what I did painstakingly see of the RNC confirmed my thoughts about a party going down for the third time, drowning in a cesspool of lies, perversions and criminal activity of their own making. But hearing all the support the troop’s rhetoric really seemed to infuriate veterans from wars past and present with offense after offense after offense.

As Joe Biden would say, their silence was deafening. The part that stuck out most in my mind was that the GOP candidate for President, you know the war hero, was one word mentioned about taking care of those that have served when they come home. Based on his record in voting for benefits for those that served, who could blame him.

But with exploding rates of cases of PTSD, suicide, homelessness, among other problems these American citizens face, it is a problem that must be addressed. Especially from our next President. But form the Republican candidate – not a single word was spoken.

Not one.

Which is not really that uncommon from Republicans. People that consider themselves Republican have committed many sins in regards to support the troops including Rush Limbaugh’s phony soldiers accusation against servicemen that disagreed with Bush’s tragic failed policies on Iraq and Afghanistan. Remember that outpouring of Republican support for the troops they say they love so much?

And who could forget their fake outrage when General Wesley Clark pointed out that being a POW does not qualify a person for Presidential duty or Donald Rumsfeld’s insulting “we go to war with the army we have” comment or the biggest insult to American troops: Walter Reed and the underfunding of Veterans Administration.

But it doesn’t end there. The straight talk express seems to speak with a forked tongue. Allow me to point out that:

• The Republican candidate voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments.


• The Republican candidate voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.


• The Republican candidate voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.


• The Republican candidate voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq.


• The Republican candidate urged other Senate members to table a vote (which never passed) to provide more than $1 billion for National Guard and Reserve equipment in Iraq related to a shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, and tactical vests.


• The Republican candidate voted against increasing the amount available for medical care for veterans by $650,000,000.

When it comes to their claim to support the troops, the Republican candidate and his party are flat-out liars.

The message is simple - if you really support the troops, stop voting Republican and bring them home.

Whats With All The Old Farts?

Well, we're midway through the RNC in St. Paul, MN. and what a travesty it has been so far.

I admit that I am not watching all the coverage as I did with the DNC last week but what I have seen was enough to intensify the feeling of hope for our country that the dems gave me from Denver.

With the sounds of Barack Obama's speech still reverberating in my mind, I look at the poor republicunts trying to salvage the last few dying remnants of their party of fossils. I swear, the floor of the RNC reminds me of a bingo hall with senior citizen discount requests plaguing all the poor vendors trying to make a buck.

It is a more low key event than the DNC, where excitement jumped forth through every speaker, where historical speeches were made by Ted Kennedy, Bill Richardson, Al Gore Michelle Obama and of course the afore mentioned inspirational tome laid out by our next President, Barack Obama.

I actually felt some pity for these poor republican bastards, with their knowing eye's and body language that their efforts are all in vain. They know deep down that the ticket they are presenting are a joke and that the Obama/Biden ticket will destroy whats left of their soon to be extinct party.

But never underestimate the power of stupid people gathered in large groups. As Americans, we cannot let down our guard against a desperate enemy. The people attending the RNC do not appreciate and love the same America that I do. A nation where everyone is happy and prosperous. A nation that works and has worldwide respect.

The nation that we all once had. A nation we can all have once again.

America craves a change. A change that only one of the Presidential candidates promises. A change that the other fears.

Its time to bring our country back to its former greatness.

Elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden. America depends on it.

McShitstain Is A Jealous Old Man

Some of McCain’s old pals in the Senate are cringing at what they see as his soulless transformation into what he once scorned.

“John’s eaten up with envy,” said one. “His image of himself was always the handsome, celebrity flyboy.

“Now somebody else is the celebrity,” the colleague continued, while John looks in the mirror and sees his face marred by skin cancer and looks at the TV and sees his dashing self-image replaced by visions of William Frawley, with Letterman jokes about his membership in the ham radio club and adventures with wagon trains.

For McCain, being cool meant being a rogue, not a policy wonk; but Obama manages to be a cool College Bowl type, which must irk McCain, who liked to play up his bad-boy cool.

Now the guy in the back of the class is shooting spitballs at the class pet and is coming off as more juvenile than daring.

Veterans Against McShitstain

The growing ranks of veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan will have a lot to say about who becomes president. And what they are saying isn't what you might expect.

In theory, John McCain, with his long record of service as a Navy pilot and prisoner of war story from Vietnam, should have the market cornered on the military vote.

Instead, he has drawn opposition from many veterans because of his voting record in the Senate. Sen. McCain has voted against bills that would have improved veterans' benefits, particularly health care, or measures to ease the strain on active-duty troops and their families.

The disapproval among vets for Sen. McCain has fed surprising support for Barack Obama, who has voted for many of the veterans' initiatives in the Senate that his opponent rejected.

One of the last things the McCain campaign expected was to wind up in the cross hairs of angry veterans and having to fight off repeated attacks. But, then, that was also one of the last things the decorated veteran John Kerry expected in 2004.

The Internet has given rise to a new generation of veterans groups that line up from one end of the political spectrum to the other - Veterans for Peace at the left end and the Swift Boat Vets on the right.

Among the many misconceptions about running for president is that a military combat record makes a candidate more electable.

In fact, the converse is true, at least since the Vietnam War changed Americans' perspectives about service in the armed forces.

None of the three presidents who have won two terms since the '70s has done it on the strength of his military credentials.

As an Army officer during World War II, Ronald Reagan made government movies for the war effort while stationed in Culver City, Cal. Bill Clinton has no military record, and lingering questions about why he has none. George W. Bush made sure the skies were safe over Houston when he served on the homefront with the Texas Air National Guard during the height of Vietnam.

Presidential candidates with truly heroic service in World War II have been big losers in November: George McGovern was a decorated B-24 bomber pilot who flew dozens of missions over Africa and Europe; Bob Dole nearly died from wounds suffered in Italy, and lost the use of his right arm; George H.W. Bush earned the Distinguished Flying Cross after getting shot down during one of many bombing missions in the Pacific.

When it comes to winning support from veterans, Sen. McCain's voting record on their issues is an imposing obstacle.

The Disabled Veterans of America gives him a 20 percent rating, compared with an 80 percent rating for Sen. Obama. The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans for America gives Sen. McCain a D and Sen. Obama a B+. The Vietnam Veterans of America say Sen. McCain has voted against them on 15 issues.

One of the most vocal and fastest-growing veterans groups to oppose the McCain campaign is VoteVets.org. Formed in 2006, the organization claims a membership of roughly 100,000, with a political action committee devoted to electing congressional candidates who oppose the handling of the Iraq war.

Especially galling to VoteVets.org is Sen. McCain's opposition to the new, bipartisan GI Bill that increases education benefits for Iraq and Afghanistan vets. Sen. Obama voted for the bill when it passed 75-22 in May; Sen. McCain was on the campaign trail and did not vote.

The size of the veterans' vote is easier to calculate than its direction. The nation has about 24 million veterans - a population the size of California - with 1.7 million of them in Florida. In 2004, roughly 80 percent of vets turned out to vote, compared with 64 percent of nonveterans. American veterans are 80 percent white non-Hispanic, 11 percent African-American, 6 percent Hispanic and 92 percent male. Their median age is 60, and 60 percent of them live in urban areas.

Veterans are politically and demographically diverse - a long way from a monolithic voting bloc. But Sen. McCain is running the risk of uniting them against him.

I am sick and tired of McCain brushing off every legitimate criticism by invoking the fact that he was a POW.




Being a POW does not excuse you for having a crappy health policy.


Being a POW does not make you a war hero -- for that you have to kill the enemy in a useful way to actually win the war.

And being a POW does not make you an expert on military or foreign policy.

But being a POW DOES make McShitstain nothing but a PRISON BITCH.

• Crashed his plane FIVE times, before shot down and taken prisoner.


• His role in Forrestal fire.

McCain was physically brave and committed to a military career because of heritage. But is appears that he was fundementally not very smart, not very interested in actually being a good pilot, studying or working to be a good pilot and actually do his best to win the Vietnam war that was allegedly so imporant to win.

He could not be bothered to study hard, stay sober and fight succesfully.

Most of us have heard about his being fifth from the bottom in his academy class rank, 894th out of 899. That is his undergraduate career. That is much worse then George W. Bush was at Yale. Some of it is excused as demerits from bad behavior. But I have not seen anything about his actual academic GPA. And if he was so interested in beating the Soviets or later in winning the Vietnam war maybe he should have studied and worked harder.

Per the Wikipeida entry on the early life and military career of John McCain (retreived 4/17/2008):

McCain was then commissioned an ensign, and spent two and a half years as a naval aviator in training at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas.[46] He earned a reputation as a party man, as he drove a Corvette, dated an exotic dancer named "Marie the Flame of Florida", spent all his free time on the beach or in a BOQ room turned bar and friendly gambling den, and, as he would later say, "generally misused my good health and youth".

He began as a sub-par flier, with limited patience for studying aviation manuals.

During a practice run in Texas, his engine quit while landing, and his aircraft crashed into Corpus Christi Bay and sank to the bottom. Although momentarily knocked unconscious by the impact, he squeezed out of the cockpit and swam to the surface, escaping without major injuries.

That is crashed on his own #1.

...he had another close call when he and his plane emerged intact from a collision with power lines after flying too low over Spain.

That's #2.

In late 1965, he had his third close call when a flameout in his trainer jet over Norfolk, Virginia led to his ejecting safely before his plane crashed.

And that was #3. That we know of.

One question has always been, how much did McCain's dads position as a senior Admiral have to do with this incompetent not being kicked out of the service?

The above are accepted facts. This next item is questionable but potentially interesting for mainstream follow-up:

Some have suggested (wingers love that phrase) that McCain's had direct involvement in causing the worst non-combat-related disaster in the history of the Navy, the Forrestal fire that killed 134 sailors and injured 62 on July 29, 1967:

Supposedly verified by unamed "senior Naval officer who was assigned to the Naval War College":

McCain and the Forrestal's skipper, Capt. John K. Beling, were warned about the danger of using M-65 1000-lb. bombs manufactured in 1935, which were deemed too dangerous to use during World War II and, later, on B-52 bombers. The fire from the Zuni misfire resulted in the heavy 1000 pounders being knocked loose from the pylons of McCain's A-4, which were only designed to hold 500-pound bombs.' WMR further reported, 'The unstable bombs had a 60-second cook-off threshold in a fire situation and this warning was known to both Beling and McCain prior to the disaster.'

...crewmen aboard the Forrestal have provided additional information about the Forrestal incident. It is believed by many crewmen and those who have investigated the case that McCain deliberately 'wet-started' his A-4E to shake up the guy in the plane behind his A-4. 'Wet-starts', done either deliberately or accidentally, shoot a large flame from the tail of the aircraft.

In McCain's case, the 'wet-start' apparently 'cooked off' and launched the Zuni rocket from the rear F-4 that touched off the explosions and massive fire. The F-4 pilot was reportedly killed in the conflagration.

'Wet starting' was apparently a common practice among young 'hot-dog' pilots. McCain was quickly transferred to the USS Oriskany (the only Forrestal crewman to be immediately transferred). After the disaster, McCain was shot down over North Vietnam on October 26, 1967.

...informed by knowledgeable sources, including an ex-Navy A-4 pilot, the 'wet-start game' was a common occurrence. However, it is between 'very unlikely' and 'impossible' for the Forrestal 'wet start' to have been accidental. 'Wet starts' were later rendered impossible by automated engine controls."

Now granted, the above and more on this is from, ahem, cough, cough, Wayne Madsen via Portland IndyMedia. But hey, if Ayers is a real issue, then WMR is a source worth at least following up on. There is at least some specificity and details being made in these charges that could be looked into.

Has anybody else looked into this?

By the way... when McCain was shot down, was it just routine bad luck, the sad but predictable result of a proven lousy pilot who did not study his manuals, or just maybe (playing the sort of specious psychobble games that should be appreciated by those who waved purple heart band aids against Kerry) he felt guilty over his role in the Forrestal fire.

Now of course, we all know that McCain was a great and mighty war hero once he was a POW.

McCain working for the enemy. If a US soldier made propaganda tapes for the enemy (like John McCain did), then went on to run for president as a Democrat, the Republicans would eviscerate that candidate. I want George Stephanopoulos to ask John McCain if he loves America as much as soldiers who didn't make propaganda tapes for the enemy while in captivity. Oh, and in case you think I'm kidding, here are McCain's own words:

"Later, I made a second, feebler attempt at suicide. On the fourth day, I gave up. I signed a confession that "I am a black criminal and I have performed the deeds of an air pilot. The guards ordered me to record my confession on tape. I refused, and was beaten until I consented."

Well, I'm sure a POW has never been beaten before, so it's totally understandable why McCain betrayed his country during his "hero" years in Vietnam. (Or are we to assume that all American POWs betray their country while in captivity, right?)

Maybe among all those who were POWs there were some others who did not do the confession and betrayal thing?

Since being a POW was his initial entry ticket to polical success (the money of his partner in adultery, drug addict thief with a penchant for plagiarism 2nd wife being his other enabling factor), maybe anybody who was a "better POW" should be promoted to President ahead of McCain?

A Dear John Letter

Dear Grampa McShitstain,

Let me be completely honest right from the start: I am a not a Republican (which you probably knew the minute I mentioned being honest).
I am a Democrat, and therefore do not want you to win this election.

No offense, but we’ve already endured almost eight years of an incompetent liar in the Oval Office, and we both know the country cannot survive another.

I realize I am asking a lot of you, but anything you can do to ensure that you never see the inside of the White House (other than as President Obama’s guest) would be a true act of patriotism on your part.

To that end, I was just wondering if you could follow one or two of my suggestions below:

• Make the linchpin of your campaign the idea that staying in Iraq for a hundred years or more is a great idea. This will go over extremely well with the majority of the voters, who want out of Iraq – NOW.
  
• Distinguish yourself from your well-liked, young and energetic opponent by acting surly as often as possible. Adopting a hey, you kids, get off my lawn image should do it.
  
• While your opponent is being warmly greeted by international heads of state, visit a fudge ‘n sausage-type eatery. Be sure to be photographed pathetically doing same, accompanied by a doofy-looking fellow GOPer (Lindsay Graham immediately comes to mind, but you’ll have to check on his availability).
  
• Talk about a country that no longer exists as though it still does. Once will be taken as a simple gaffe; mentioning it three or four times will prove that you don’t know what you’re taking about.
  
• Play-up your opponent’s lack of knowledge about the situation in Iraq while, at the same time, you confuse Shia and Sunni, and the timing of events that have occurred during the occupation.
  
• The single most important issue in this election is the economy. Mentioning that you don’t understand “the economy” or how it “works” will drive millions of voters into the Obama camp.
  
• Make shit up – especially stuff that the entire world knows to be blatantly untrue (e.g. “We were greeted as liberators”.)
  
• Demonstrate that you are out-of-touch with the average voter by arranging a photo-op in a supermarket, where you wear a business suit while “shopping”, and have to refer to notes before “remembering” the current price of milk.
  
• Nothing is more effective than playing the pot-kettle-black game; e.g. highlight your opponent’s dismissiveness of the plight of active soldiers and veterans after you have consistently voted against bills that would assist them.
  
• Cement your I-got-nuthin’ image by criticizing your opponent’s accomplishments and plans for the future, instead of offering any of your own. If you must speak about yourself, constant references to having been a POW and how that alone qualifies you to run the country will suffice in making you look utterly ridiculous.
  
• Your opponent is known for being able to draw huge crowds. Whining about it at every opportunity will go a long way in shoring-up your image as an envious, petulant complainer – so Bush-like, it’s bound to scare even the most dedicated Republican into voting Democratic.
  
• Air TV ads that feature “facts” that have already been debunked; e.g. “Obama refused to meet with wounded soldiers.”

• Act and speak in ways that call your mental stability into question. Not being able to “recall” how you voted on issues over your senatorial career will bolster the idea that you are (a) intellectually incapable of leading a nation, and/or (b) senile. It’s a win-win situation, if you can convincingly pull it off.
  
• Choose surrogates and spokespeople who will insult voters on a regular basis (e.g. calling people who have lost their jobs, homes, savings and pensions “whiners”, or declaring the current state of the failing economy as only existing in people’s minds.)

• Attack programs that have worked well for decades, e.g. Social Security, and vow to rid the nation of such evil. This will go over especially well with seniors, who tend to vote more consistently than other age groups.
  
• Mention how you know how to win wars and bring Osama Bin Laden to justice. This will undoubtedly lead to voters wondering why you haven't shared such vital information with anyone before now - or if you're just talking out of your own ass.
  
• I don’t know how willing your family is to help out. But if your wife could make some comment that cements your image as a filthy rich couple (maybe something about the need to own a private jet?) it should cost you support among voters struggling to make ends meet. (If your daughter could run-up a monthly credit card debt equivalent to more than the yearly income of many US families, it would be icing on the cake – but I don’t want to get crazy here!)
  
• A few at-your-discretion serving suggestions: point out how your opponent is a flip-flopper while changing your own positions, complain about how the media is in the tank for Obama contemporaneous with their publicly kissing your ass, et cetera.

John, I realize I am asking a lot here. But your nation’s wellbeing is at stake.

I have already stated that I don’t want to see you elected, but I would warn you that following one or two suggestions outlined above – three at most – will be more than sufficient in ensuring Obama’s victory in November.

Anything more would be over-kill, so please use caution; doing all of the above will go much further than simply leading to your defeat – it will make you look like a clueless idiot.

Thanks in advance for putting your country’s welfare above winning an election.

It’s heartening to know that we have a true patriot in this race.

As many of you are aware, John McCain’s campaign is a total disaster – and it gets worse every day.

He doesn’t know the difference between Sunni and Shia, he doesn’t “get” this economy thing everyone is on about, and he thinks Czechoslovakia still exists.While his opponent, Barack Obama, is drawing unprecedented crowds, McCain’s non-events would be completely unattended were it not for the Secret Service (who have to be there) and the few reporters who are assigned to cover him (usually as punishment for having pissed-off their boss).

That’s why McCain is counting on you – the totally misinformed, the ignorant, and the just plain dumb – to keep his candidacy viable.

In furtherance of that effort, please don’t smarten up before November. John McCain’s only chance of getting any votes is your continued stupidity; don’t let him down.If you believe that the high cost of gas is the fault of the Democrats, despite the fact that fuel prices rose while the Republicans were in control, please don’t start putting two and two together now.If you believe that Obama is a radical Muslim and a Christian with a too-radical pastor, please persist in ignoring the contradiction and continue to accept that both of these things are incontrovertible facts.

Should you find yourself noticing that McCain doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about, take a break from listening to him. A little time out can renew your faith in his ability to eventually figure things out.Please do not abandon reliable sources like FOX-News, no matter how shrill and desperate they sound in the months to come. If their fine journalists are saying things that are the complete opposite of what you know the facts to be, remember that they could be right and the facts could be totally wrong.

Do not fall prey to the idea that change is needed in our government, or that the direction the Republicans have taken the nation in the past eight years has been wrong-minded – or even insane. Losing your job, your healthcare coverage, your savings and your home are not the worst things that can happen. The GOP has plunged the nation into unprecedented debt – you don’t hear them whining about it, do you? Put that flag pin in your lapel and soldier on.

Please keep focused on the idea that the War in Iraq is going swimmingly. So far, we have lost a mere 4,000-plus US troops, and a only few million Iraqis are dead, maimed, orphaned and/or displaced.

Do NOT allow common sense to dissuade you from believing that McCain’s idea of staying the course will ensure victory within the next hundred years or so.Above all, do NOT lose sight of the character of the candidates.

Obama may be eloquent, well-informed, admired and respected by world leaders, a man of vision and perception, hopeful about implementing positive change, enthusiastic about our ability to put the country back on the right track, and willing to work tirelessly to undo the damage done by eight years of the Bush administration’s policies. If you find yourself thinking that these are the qualities we want and need in a president, McCain will probably lose. In fact, if you find yourself thinking at all, McCain has already lost – big time.So don’t start thinking.

Don’t inform yourself.

Don’t question anything.

And for the love of God, don’t smarten up – because John McCain is depending on your stupidity.

It may fall squarely in the slim-to-none category, but it’s the only chance he has.

The self-professed candidate of “straight talk” and “experience” spent today changing his position on gay adoption, adopting Senator Obama’s position that we need more troops in Afghanistan after having resisted taking that position, flip flopping on whether he’d send U.S. or NATO troops (he actually offered three different explanations on where those additional troops would come from), and referring to a country that hasn’t existed since 1992 for the second time in two days.

He labeled Barack Obama ‘naïve’ for saying he'd strike terrorist targets in Pakistan with or without the cooperation of President Pervez Musharraf. … Aides to the Arizona senator said Wednesday that he continued to view success in Iraq as the best chance for victory in the global war on terror. ‘As on many things, Senator Obama is not listening to our commanders, and Senator McCain is,’ says Kori Schake, a senior policy adviser to McCain. ‘General David Petraeus believes Iraq is the central front in the war on terror. Al Qaeda has even said it is.’ … Ms. Schake's comments came about two hours after Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said additional troops were needed in Afghanistan but that too many were tied down in Iraq to send more.” [Christian Science Monitor, 7/7/08]

MONDAY (MORNING): McCain Called for Sending Three Additional Brigades to Afghanistan and Suggests They Would Come From Iraq. According to a press release issued by the McCain campaign on Tuesday morning, McCain would announce in a speech that he now supports sending at least three additional brigades to Afghanistan: “The status quo in Afghanistan is unacceptable, and from the moment the next President walks into the Oval Office, he will face critical decisions about Afghanistan. … John McCain Supports Sending At Least Three Additional Brigades To Afghanistan. But it's even weirder for him to use his own scandal-ridden wife to do it. What moral authority does Cindy McCain have to start throwing stones at Mrs. Obama? Only one candidate's wife is a drug addict who actually stole drugs from poor children in order to feed her addiction.

And that candidate is John McCain.

provide emergency medical services around the world. A 1993 DEA audit of the
amount of painkillers her charity had obtained quickly uncovered her thefts. She
avoided prosecution for those crimes through an agreement with the Justice
Department in which she submitted to drug testing, paid a fine, performed
community service in a soup kitchen, and joined Narcotics Anonymous and her
medical charity was closed.

What's Iraq got to do with the price of gas?

Would some reporter with access to the Republican presidential candidate please ask John McCain why he wants to continue President Bush's Mideast policy when it has proved so ruinous for American taxpayers?

Because McCain is determined to ignore our economic meltdown and shift the debate to foreign policy, shouldn't he have to explain why an open-ended military presence in the Mideast will make us economically and militarily more secure when the opposite is clearly the case?

Let's not waste too much time on the military side of the equation. The argument that troops on the ground have made us militarily more secure is absurd on its face. American resources and lives have been squandered in an inane effort that McCain aptly criticized before becoming a presidential candidate. As a Senate watchdog, he distinguished himself by sharply denouncing one defense contractor boondoggle after another in cases involving hundreds of billions for modern weapons that had nothing to do with fighting cave-based terrorists. But as a presidential candidate, McCain now unabashedly apologizes for every twist of the downwind spiral of the Bush administration foreign policy, from wasteful weapons to inhuman torture.

McCain's strategy is clearly that of distracting attention from the calamitous economy by sounding the demagogue's alarm about enemies at the gate. This week, McCain again blasted Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on the grounds that he underestimated the threat from Iran while ignoring the vast increase in Iran's power -- an increase actually resulting from Bush eliminating Iran's only effective enemy, Saddam Hussein. The other winners in this folly have been the oil kingdoms that Hussein periodically threatened, led by the Saudi royal family. Seizing upon the opportunity presented by the 9/11 attacks, Bush knocked off not the Saudis, who had produced Osama bin Laden and 15 of his hijacker minions, but rather the royal family's sworn enemy in Iraq, who had absolutely nothing do with 9/11.

And how did the Saudis thank us?

Just check the price of oil, which has increased more than sixfold since 9/11. On Friday, Bush went to dine at Saudi King Abdullah's bizarrely opulent horse farm and pleaded for an increase in oil production, but to no avail. Bush received the same rebuff in April 2005, when oil was selling for $54 a barrel. On Tuesday, it sold for $129, and the price rise is a good measure of Saudi gratitude for the Bush family's unwavering support over past decades. Saudi Arabia's oil minister, Ali al-Naimi, couldn't have been more condescending when he turned down Bush's request with the observation that "presidents and kings have every right, every privilege, to comment or ask or say whatever they want." He added at a press conference, "How much does Saudi Arabia need to do to satisfy people who are questioning our oil practices and policies?"

Enough to get the price back down to where it was when we saved your sorry oil-well excuse for a country, you ingrate, Bush might have retorted. But our bold leader was too polite for anything like that. "He didn't punch any tables or shout at anybody," said Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal. "I think he was satisfied." Why? Instead of pointing out that the Saudis could easily open their spigots in gratitude for our keeping them in power, the president threatened the Saudi king not with an invasion but with a US recession. "My point to His Majesty," Bush warned in an interview with The New York Times before encountering the great man himself, "is going to be, when consumers have less purchasing power because of high prices of gasoline--in other words, when it affects their families, it could cause this economy to slow down. If the economy slows down, there will be less barrels of oil purchased."

He'll show them -- we'll have a recession, our families will suffer and, boy, will the Saudis be sorry. A regular Teddy Roosevelt. There is no better measure of the failure of Bush's foreign policy than that, five years after we conquered the second-most important pool of oil in the world, the American taxpayers who paid for this grand imperial adventure are rewarded with skyrocketing prices at the pump.

The DNC’s “100 years” ad targeting John McCain drew the predictably ire of the Republican Party this week, with McCain allies arguing that McCain doesn’t want to keep the war going through 2108, he’s just willing to leave U.S. troops in Iraq there indefinitely to help maintain the peace.

Now McCain has changed his mind on multiple of occasions about whether this is realistic, but for now, he seems to sincerely believe that Iraqis would not only allow the United States to maintain a Korea-like presence in Iraq for decades to come, but that such a presence is actually necessary.

This strikes me as a pretty ridiculous policy, but let’s take it a step further.

McCain is willing to leave troops in Iraq for up to a century after the war ends. Got it. But how long do we keep U.S. troops in Iraq during the war? As it turns out, that’s indefinite, too.

First, if McCain doesn’t envision a 100-year American front-line combat presence in Iraq, how long is he willing to keep U.S. forces in that role?

So far, all he has said is that the United States should withdraw only if it concludes that the Iraq mission is unachievable or when it has achieved success, which he defines as the establishment of “a peaceful, stable, prosperous, democratic state.”

McCain has not said when, but he has pledged that Iraqi units will eventually assume the major combat responsibility. That prompts the next question McCain should address: What would then become the mission for the U.S. forces he wants to maintain in Iraq?

McCain hasn’t been able to answer either question.

He hasn’t even tried.

Can Americans REALLY Be This Stupid?

This week John McCain said for the third time in two days, that Iran, a Shi’ite stronghold was training al Qaeda a militant Sunni organization.

Is this mis-speak from the republican candidate for president or was it signs of his advanced senile dementia?

Or is it "planting the seeds" of another diabolical republican plan.

That the Hatfields of the Muslim world would be working with the McCoys is so not true even Dick Cheney hasn’t said it. Now the press, which loves McCain because he feeds them BBQ, dismissed this as just one of those senior moments.

Not to worry, he’s only going to have his finger on the nuclear trigger if America is stupid enough to vote for this senile old fuck.

But it’s not just a ‘gaffe,’ it’s what McCain really thinks. And therein lies the paradox of this campaign: McCain’s strength is really his weakness. He’s a warrior who’s dumb about war. Whoever read The Art of War, chapter three of The Art of War says, “Know thy enemy.” And John McCain plainly doesn’t. He thinks the solution is our presence in the Middle East. No, the problem is our presence in the Middle East.

That’s why I don’t care if John McCain is better than bush on global warming or torture or campaign finance, because he’s exactly the same as bush on the war. They both don’t get the same thing.

As long as we’re setting up shop in the heart of the Arab world, we’re not keeping America safer. Bin Laden goes ballistic over cartoons in Danish newspapers, and Goober and Grandpa want to put up a Hooters in Fallujah. They don’t “hate us for our freedom,” they hate us for our stupidity.

Winning the War on Terror comes down to this: what will make us safer from pissed off Arab teenagers who are willing to die? There are a number of good answers to that question, but occupying their land for the next 100 years is not one of them.

Some people look at McCain and see a tough guy who is going to protect us from the “Islamofascists.”

I look at him and see a walking Tom Clancy action figure who is going to get us all fucking killed.

And yet a new poll shows that a majority of Americans believe John McCain is the candidate best qualified to answer when that red phone rings at 3:00 a.m., mainly because he’d be up anyway, trying to pee.

Yes, 55% of Americans think it’s McCain who should answer that phone, because they know John McCain is a warrior. He will not waver or hesitate. He will answer that phone and give the order that sends men to die and it will turn out to be a recording asking him if he’s happy with his mortgage.

ANYONE that supports this "bush league" candidate needs to have their head examined or be tried as a traitor to America.

McNasty And His God

This past week, Sen. Barack Obama's pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, has taken an exceptional amount of heat in part for comments that suggested the U.S. government had introduced AIDS into black communities.

But let's look at other religious confidants to the presidential candidates.

They are the ones that want to bring their religion to their campaigns.

Reverend Wright's comments seem like the actions of a choirboy in comparison to Hillary Clinton's flavor of Christianity. We explored that dark road a couple of days ago. CLICK HERE

Reverend Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, Ohio -- whom Sen. John McCain hailed as a spiritual adviser -- has suggested on several occasions that the U.S. government was complicit in facilitating black genocide.

In speeches that have gone largely unnoticed, Parsley (who is white) compares Planned Parenthood, the reproductive care and family planning group, to the Klu Klux Klan and Nazis, and describes the American government as enablers of murder for supporting the organization.

"If I were call for the sterilization or the elimination of an entire segment of society, I'd be labeled a racist or a murderer, or at very best a Nazi," says Parsley. "That every single year, millions of our tax dollars are funding a national organization built upon that very goal -- their target: African Americans. That's right, the death toll: nearly fifteen hundred African Americans a day. The shocking truth of black genocide."

He goes on.

"Right now our own government is allowing organizations like Planned Parenthood to legally take the innocent lives of precious baby girls and baby boys and even footing the bill for it all with our tax dollars, turning every single one of us into accessories to murder," he says. "You know who their biggest fans must be, that must be the Klu Klux Klan, because the woman who founded this organization detested black people.... African Americans were number one on Margaret Sanger's list. So this 'Lady MacDeath,' as I like to call her, studied the works of Englishman Thomas Robert Malthus, and embraced his plan of eugenics."

I LOVE IT when these idiots call the termination of an UNBORN FETUS as the "murder of baby boys and baby girls."
Unlike Wright's statements, Parsley's are more accepted in conservative circles, in which a strict anti-abortion sentiment is not only tolerated, but applauded. The asshole Reverend Don Spitz of the "Army of God" (who by the way has threatened my life on several occasions) actually thinks of Eric Robert Rudolf as a fucking hero. (remember him - the serial abortion clinic bomber)

Moreover, as a white pastor expressing anger on behalf of black populations, Parsley's testimony may come off as more sympathetic and less conspiratorial than Wright's.

However, there are issues with Parsley's stats. While black populations in America do have higher abortion rates than white populations, there are far more abortions among white mothers than among blacks. Meanwhile, Sanger, who founded the American Birth Control League (which eventually became Planned Parenthood), was an advocate of both birth control and eugenics. And while she did not publicly denounce Nazi Germany's eugenics program, privately she expressed deep concern.

This is the second time that controversial remarks by Parsley have surfaced on the campaign trail. Last week, David Corn of Mother Jones reported that the televangelist "called upon Christians to wage a 'war' against the 'false religion' of Islam with the aim of destroying it."

In late February, McCain attended a rally in Cincinnati, in which the Arizona Republican was praised as a "strong, true, consistent conservative."

Yep. He fits the profile perfectly.

Evangelical Tears

In what might be the best news I’ve heard in months, Jimmy Dobson is threatening to boycott the November election. And he wants to take his fanatic delussional followers with him.

James Dobson, the idiot founder of the conservative, evangelical advocacy group Focus on the Family, has delivered a blow to John McCain — by saying he won’t vote for him if he’s the Republican presidential nominee.

“I am convinced Sen. McCain is not a conservative, and in fact, has gone out of his way to stick his thumb in the eyes of those who are … I cannot, and will not, vote for Sen. John McCain, as a matter of conscience,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I believe this general election will offer the worst choices for president in my lifetime. I certainly can’t vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama based on their virulently anti-family policy positions. If these are the nominees in November, I simply will not cast a ballot for president for the first time in my life,” he said.

Dobson said he was just expressing his views as a private citizen — but many of his millions of sheep in the evangelical community, who listen to his radio show and read his books, will take it as a signal to do the same.

What’s got Jimmy so fired up?

Do you think it’s because McCain is pro-choice?

Of course he’s not.

Do you think it’s because McCain wants to get us out of Iraq too soon?

Hell, he wants us there forever.

Maybe Dobson is worried McCain’s fiscal policy or plan for health insurance will hurt families.

Doubt it, since McCain hasn’t talked much about either.

No, Dobson’s issues are much more vital to America.

Dobson said McCain’s failure to support a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage and his support for embryonic stem-cell research among other things were beyond the Christian conservative pale.

Stay home, Jimmy boy. And keep your idiot flock with you.

Can America Afford John McCain?

John McCain is running away with the republicunt primaries, but don't trust his carefully-crafted image. He's worked for years to brand himself. From Iraq to health care, Social Security to special interest tax cuts to ethics, he's promising nothing more than a third Bush term.

After championing campaign finance reform and ethics legislation to score political points, he now has a staggering amount of lobbyists involved in every aspect of his campaign. In fact, two of the top three sources for John McCain's campaign cash are D.C. lobbying firms, and he looked the other way as Jack Abramoff bought and paid for the Republican Party and the Culture of Corruption.

• On immigration reform, he's run as far to the right as he can, aligning himself with the most extreme elements of the Republican Party.
• On the war, McCain scoffed at Bush's call to leave troops in Iraq for 50 years, saying "Make it a hundred!"
• On a woman's right to choose, McCain has vowed to appoint judges who would overturn Roe v. Wade.
• On the economy, one of the issues that the American people care most about, McCain has said: "I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated."

We can't afford four more years with a President who drives the economy into the ground.

We can't afford four more years with a President who fights an endless war in Iraq.

We can't afford four more years with a President who gives tax cuts to companies who ship jobs overseas.

America needs a President who can get every American the health care they deserve; with a President we just can't trust.
