The dark underbelly of America contains numerous warts, boils, and cancerous tumors, inflicted by that loathsome grimoire of madness that the elected leaders of our nation have become.

America + Iraq = Disaster

A new troubling myth has taken hold in Washington and it is critical that the record is set straight. According to the mainstream media, Republicans, and unfortunately even some Democrats, the President's surge in Iraq has been a resounding success.

In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

This assertion is disingenuous, factually incorrect, and negatively impacts America's national security.

The Surge had a clear and defined objective - to create stability and security - enabling the Iraqi government to enact lasting political solutions and foster genuine reconciliation and cooperation between Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds.

This has not happened.

I mean, C'MON, look at the kid in the picture. Could this inbred protect anyone?

There has been negligible political progress in Iraq, and we are no closer to solving the complex problems - including a power sharing government, oil revenue agreement and new constitution - than we were before the Administration upped the ante and sent 30,000 more troops to Iraq.

Too many Democrats in Congress are again surrendering to General Petraeus and have failed to challenge the bush Administration's claims that the surge has been successful. In fact - it is just the opposite.

The reduction in violence in Iraq has exposed the continuing failure of Iraqi officials to solve their substantial political rifts. By President Bush's own stated goal of political progress, the Surge has failed.

Of course raising troop levels has increased security - a strategy the bush administration ignored when presented by General Shinseki before the war in Iraq began - but the fundamental internal Iraqi problems remain and the factors that were accelerating the civil war in 2007 have simply been put on hold.

Despite the failed efforts of American soldiers, the surge alone cannot bring about the political solutions needed to end centuries of sectarian divide.

As it stands, little on the ground supports the assertion that Iraqis are ready to stand up and govern themselves. Too few Iraqi troops are trained, equipped and combat ready, and they cannot yet provide adequate security. Loyalty is also an issue in the Iraqi army as Al Queda and Sunni insurgents infiltrate their defense forces. The consequences turned deadly just recently when an Iraqi soldier purposely killed two U.S. troops.

On the streets of Baghdad and Mosul, the Sunni and Shia factions have paused their fighting, awaiting guarantees and protections that have not yet been delivered. As Iraqi refugees return, there is no mechanism to help them rebuild their lives, nor recover their now-occupied homes. Neighborhoods once mixed are now segregated.

In Northern Iraq, Kurdish terrorists conducting nefarious operations across the border into Turkey have compelled our NATO ally to strike at bases, inflaming tensions between Baghdad and Ankara.

The surge is working?

We suffered more U.S. casualties in 2007 than in any other year of the war.

We can't afford any more of this type of success.

This surge will work when middle eastern civilians decide to make it work. We are not fighting a military. The Iraqi government cannot order anyone to call a truce. Well, they can but nobody has to listen if they don't want to.

This is not a war of military vs military which means a truce declaration cannot be made.

Its up to the people who are fighting the occupiers to end this war. What are the odds of that happening? Slim to none.

Sue is correct and you son don't know your history, we had more casualties in the first day of WWII than we have had all this time in Iraq.

I suggest instead of digging out your bong first thing in the morning that you do more research because your all messed up.

You don't have the right to be fed up when you don't know your history and don't have one bit of facts supporting your claims. But then again what would I expect from a crazy Libtard Kos Kid Nutroots.

P.S. Don't forget to put your tinhat on in the morning now.

Apparently "wild phil" you need to re-check YOUR history books. (perhaps you need to get laid too, but thats a different topic)You are WRONG about WWII. You are WRONG about IRAQ. You are WRONG about....well everyhting.

What facts have YOU produced here to support your misinformation? Other than the FACT that you are WRONG and quite obviously UNEDUCATED.

BTW, this post comes from Congressman Wexler. It was part of an op-ed piece that ran in the Wall Street Journal genius.

Not only are you ignorant to historical facts, but you are also ignorant in current events. Good job. You are one of the sheep that remain asleep at the wheel.

And you call yourself an American. You are a disgrace to this country.

You can call in to the show this Sunday and I'll put you in your place there too.

Liberals got women the right to vote.

Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote.

Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty.

Liberals ended segregation.

Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.

Liberals created Medicare.

Liberals passed the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act.

What did the ignorant conservatives do?

They opposed them on every one of those things.

Every damn one!

So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, 'Liberal,' as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won't work because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.
