Double Crossed

Wikipedia defines “double cross” as an act of betrayal.

Throughout history, wars have been started and people have been murdered in the name of Christianity and the Christian God. From a book that supposedly preaches “peace and love” where have people found the need to commit such atrocities? From people that have such high morals, where do they get the idea that they can use their God as an excuse to rape, torture and kill their very own children? Not to mention their beliefs of superiority.

The church has been engulfed in sex scandals, mainly perpetrated against children, since the Christian faith began, but it has only been brought into the spotlight over the last ten years. Victim’s cries have gone unheard for centuries and still there are voices that will never be heard because of guilt and shame.

Parents have murdered their children because of their Christian beliefs.
The ultimate betrayal. Destroying and tearing apart families, mass murdering non-believers and free thinkers. All in the name of God.

Christians have claimed to hear and have reported to seeing God, which happen to be two leading symptoms of a debilitating mental illness. Some even go as far as speaking in a gibberish language, believing that they are actually serving as a vessel for God’s message.
Insanity, prejudice and horror. All at the hands of Christians. All believing that they are doing their God’s deeds. What causes otherwise clear thinking and rational people to have their minds snapped in such a way?

Ever since 315AD, when Christianity supposedly began, pagan temples were destroyed and priest‘s were killed by the thousands, Christian atrocities have become accepted amongst the faithful. From early history beheadings to a current day occupation of a Muslim nation, Christianity is the leading cause of death in our world.

A modern day world where images of death and torture are worshiped every week, as churches are filled to capacity and offering plates are replenished. It has become a disease when countless offenses to the God they worship are tolerated and excuses are accepted.

A world where an Andrea Yates kills her five children because of religious psychosis, yet she still lives, locked away in a Texas prison. Where she begs her God for forgiveness and is under the belief that she will meet up with her children in heaven. What a happy reunion it will be, I’m sure.

I am in agreement with Bertrand Russell in his feeling that “Christianity is a disease born of fear and as a source of untold misery to the human race.” It’s attitude toward sex alone, where withholding information and education could prevent disease and unwanted pregnancy, is responsible for a great deal of suffering around the world.

This is, admittedly, an extreme example of the suffering caused by the Christian church. But history is packed with stories of the Christian betrayal, against humanity and against the concept of God itself. The infighting among the denominations themselves has become tradition in the Christian sects.

The Christian clings to stories of murder, incest and torture, all the while preaching a gospel of peace. They believe they have an exclusive right to goodness and morality and that non-Christians cannot hold these attributes simply because they don’t know Jesus the way they do.
Hypocrisy lies and unrealistic belief has been responsible for people to leave their congregations and looking Christianity for what it really is. The Christian message may be looked at as a way of life but the history cannot be ignored and rationalized as isolated incidents.

It is more real than the God they worship.
